Why should you have an intimate wedding?

With the Covid-19 outbreak I think everyone (literally everyone) realised that change was inevitable and will have an effect on every aspect of our normal lives! One change that I really think will influence the wedding industry is the rise in Intimate weddings and elopements.

With that being said, I really think that intimate weddings will be appreciated a lot more in the near future as we’ve been distant from our loved ones for some time now. This is bringing back the focus to what it’s all about- celebrations with your nearest and dearest! If you’re considering it but still on defence, here are a few tips.

You’ll celebrate your big day with the people YOU want there! Okay, so I know you want a lot of people there but having an intimate wedding will force you to sit and think about who you “REALLY” want there. This will probably be the toughest part of your decision cause come on, us South Africans can’t just invite our favourite cousin because “Shame, how will Pieter feel?” I know. This is just how we are, we don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings, especially on your wedding day but I promise you that if you send out a letter explaining why you’ve decided on such a small guest list and that this will in no way impact your relationships with these people.

1. You’ll be able to save a lot of money

Money is something people never like to talk about and because of Covid-19, everyone has been financially impacted in one way or another. Having an intimate wedding will have a positive impact on this as you won’t have to pay for as many guests, which results into a smaller wedding, fewer heads to feed – you get the picture.

2. You don’t have to go the traditional route!

If you don’t like the garter toss or not keen on having all eyes on you for a first dance, then you don’t have to do it! That’s the great part of having an intimate wedding, is that you’re completely customising this day for the two of you. If there are some traditions, you want to add like a “first look” or “seeing each other before the ceremony” doooo them!!! You have full creative freedom of your day regardless, but since you’re already going the unconventional route you might as well go all out!

3. It doesn’t have to be a one-time party!

So just because you’re having an intimate ceremony today, doesn’t mean that you’re never going to celebrate with your friends. I saw a post of a couple having an intimate ceremony with their closest family at their home and a few weeks later having a huge party with their friends, eating fish and chips on the beach and honestly just having the best time. You can do this too! You’re not limited to a one-day thing!

It is important that you know that you can make your wedding day your own! Whether you want to make or break a few traditions, it is all up to YOU!
